Tags on property stretches for a mile

The trail of graffiti leading from York Road and onto Ashton Lane, has been cleaned up.

Trafford Council led the way by cleaning the pavements of ‘tags’ and offensive words, and later the graffiti covering walls and doors.

There was praise for Sale Today’s ‘Rub it Out’  campaign, “Great article and support for the local community – thank you…if we don’t make a stand over this it will send a wrong signal to those responsible,” said David Thompson-Jones, who first reported the graffiti attack.

And Councillor Brian Rigby, of the local Ashton ward, has contacted heads of local schools, asking them to remind pupils of their responsibilities and give them advice over anti social behaviour.

‘Ninety nine per cent of our youngsters are a credit to their generation. It’s just the one per cent that let people down by senseless acts like this,” said Cllr Rigby.

The clean up operation use high power jets to get rid off some of the graffiti, and repainted some doors, walls and BT line boxes.

Last week’s mindless attack  in Ashton Lane

Sale Today was the first news organisation to feature the attack and carry pictures of the trail of damage.

‘I think its outrageous, appalling and mindless – and its been carried out by local youngsters, probably living in the Park Road and Ashton Lane areas. They are desecrating their own area,‘’says Councillor Brian Rigby.

A spokesperson for GMP Trafford South said: “We are currently investigating various graffiti offences which have occurred on Ashton Lane in Sale.

“If you have witnessed anything or have any information please contact PC Foreman at Altrincham Police Station on 0161 856 7530 or report anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“If you do witness any person(s) in the act of committing an offence please report to 101.”
