The first Sale Summer Wine Festival will be held next month with a almost 60 wines available for testing.  It’s been organised by Cork of the North, the newly opened wine bar and shop in Northenden Road, Sale.

But with 200 tickets available the event will be held on July 7th  at the larger VAO restaurant on the Sale Waterside Plaza, who will serve up snacks and canapés during the evening to complement the wines.

Cork of the North owner and New Order DJ Marc Hough says Sale has a growing number of wine buffs wanting to try artisan products not always found in the supermarket.

He said:  “There will be 58 different wines to sample from all over the world, and wine experts will be on hand to tell you all about the delicious bottles. It’s the ultimate ‘try-before-you-buy’ experience – and orders will be taken on the night. Purchases aren’t compulsory, but once you’ve tried these wines, you’ll realise you’d be crackers not to!”

Sale has a growing number of modern wining and dining venues alongside the more traditional pubs and restaurants, and Marc says it wasn’t too big a risk to open his shop/bar in the town.

He said: “Since we opened our shop and bar three months ago, we have seen that the people of Sale have a real desire to drink high-quality artisan wines. Many of our bottles are made by small family-owned vineyards – they taste great, offer real value for money, and are not laden with the artificial flavourings and preservatives that you so often find in the mass-produced branded bottles you will find in the supermarkets.

“We put a lot of effort into seeking out truly interesting and unique wines, and our Summer Wine Fair is the perfect way for us to share our discoveries with local wine lovers.”

Tickets for the Summer Wine Fair are available from the Cork of the North shop, or by calling 0161 962 6263. Unless, of course you win two tickets for the event by entering our competition.  Marc has set the question and we will ask him to pull the winners out of a wine cooler!

Question: What is the grape used to make Chablis?  Please put your answers in an email to sale@hyperlocaltoday.co.uk with WINE COMP in the subject box. Entries close at midnight June 23rd.
