Sale school overwhelmed by people’s generosity after vandals destroyed their plants grown for the RHS show

Flower power and love may not be quite new, but they are proving to be the cure after an act mindless vandalism for the children at one Sale school.

The pupils of Lime Tree Primary Academy were left heartbroken after plants and flowers they were growing for next month’s RHS show, at Tatton Park, were destroyed in a vandal attack overnight on Tuesday.

But now the Sale community and parents have rallied around to ensure the Budworth Road School is back on track to complete their entry for the show.

“People have responded magnificently and the children have been overwhelmed by their generosity and the love shown by everyone,’ said a school spokeswoman.

”Since news of this heartless event got out, we have been inundated with offers of help, from parents, neighbours, even people we don’t know – offering flowers and plants, and  Tesco is offering some money to buy new plants. The children have learned a valuable lesson from the community about love and respect and that there are good people in this world and the world is not a bad place.”

Vandals got into the school grounds overnight on Tuesday and caused significant damage to the school’s poly-tunnel cutting the heads of flowers and damaging plants the children were growing for the show.

”They were heartbroken because a lot of hard work had been spent on the display, and it was our first entry to the show,” said the spokeswoman.

The pupils, from Year 5s, had picked out red and yellow plants, grasses and sunflowers to reflect the ‘Lion King’ theme that they were assigned by RHS organisers.

It seemed that the school would not be able to enter the show. “We thought at first we couldn’t possibly make it and grow some more flowers, but thanks to the people of Sale we are now able to.”
