Drivers  are attempting to avoid the traffic jams on the A56 by driving through a “No Entry’ sign on Langdale Road in Sale.

Residents have complained to police that this is happening every day while the roadworks continue at the the Park Road traffic lights junction.

One resident said:” We live close to the one way part and not only do drivers ignore the ‘no entry’, they do so at incredible speed. This is at any time of the day, not just peak times. And it has always happened, not just because of the roadworks on the main road. Someone will be hurt one of these days.,”

GMP are now targeting the offenders. ”  Today officers issued 6 Traffic Offence Reports within an hour to drivers who drove through the No Entry sign on Langdale Road, Sale in an attempt to avoid the traffic delay on Washway Road junction with Park Road. These people, were fully aware of their actions and will face prosecution,” said a police spokesman.

The spokesman went on to say:”We will tolerate this. Remember your highway code!”

The A56 has been the tragic scene of accidents while the work has been underway.

Helena Thurm, from Altrincham, was hit by a Vauxhall Astra at the junction of Park Road on the A56 in West Timperley on Monday June 20.

She sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Wythenshawe Hospital but sadly died the next day.
