The first two water taxis, registered for use on the Bridgewater canal from Sale to Manchester are on their way.

The boats are being fitted out in their distinctive Waxi livery  and they will shortly be on the water – but will have to go through trials without customers first.  However it is hoped they will be available for public use in September.

When we revealed a couple of weeks  ago that the Waxis were coming,  Sale Today received a record number of hits as the word spread.  Social media like-wise became a frenzy of people wanting to know when the service will start.

With an estimated journey time of up to 45 minutes the Waxis would be quicker than driving down Washway Road into Manchester on most days, not least because of the amount of roadworks which have seen traffic crawling along the A56 recently.

Today the company which will operate Waxis put out an update. “The boats are nearing completion and will be ready for shipping at the end of this week!,” they tweeted today with the hashtag
