St Peter’s Square stop will re-open for Metrolink services at the end of August

StPeter’s Square Metrolink stop will re-open during the August Bank Holiday weekend after a multi-million transformation.

Sale Today commuters have endured more than two months of delays and cancelled services as routes into Manchester were affected.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s Metrolink director Peter Cushing said: “We’ll start to see the benefits of the new stop even before the Second City Crossing opens. There’s a lot to achieve in the coming week as our contractor prepares to hand over the stop for us to run test trams. We then hope to welcome our first passengers back to the vastly improved St Peter’s Square stop over the Bank Holiday weekend.”

Latest information, including the new timetable, will be posted on www.metrolink.co.uk on social media and on stops and trams before the Bank Holiday weekend.

These services are planned to run from the end of August:

  • Altrincham – Bury (Mon to Fri 0715–1930 and Sat 0930–1830 only)
  • Altrincham – Piccadilly
  • East Didsbury – Victoria (Mon to Fri before 0715 and after 1930. Sat before 0930 and after 1830. All day Sunday).
  • MediaCityUK – Piccadilly (Mon to Fri 0715–2000 and Sat 0900–1800 only)
  • Eccles – Ashton-under-Lyne via MediaCityUK
  • Manchester Airport – Cornbrook
  • Bury – Etihad Campus
  • Shaw and Crompton – East Didsbury (Mon to Fri 0715–1930 and Sat 0930–1830 only)
  • Rochdale Town Centre – Exchange Square
  • Firswood – Manchester Airport (0300 – 0600 only)
  • East Didsbury – Deansgate-Castlefield (Mon to Fri 0715–1930 and Sat 0930–1830 only)
  • Metrolink services have been suspended through St Peter’s Square since June 26 to accommodate the works – part of Manchester City Council’s redevelopment of the square.Trees are being installed around the stop and both platforms to offer shade and greenery, while York stone paving is being laid on and around the stop and this work will continue after the tram stop opens.Services will initially run through the new stop using the revamped original city crossing line, which continues along Mosley Street.
