Adam Henshall-Jones, the Sale teacher recovering in a hospital in China after falling critically ill with blood clots on the brain – was able to take a few steps away from his bed today.
As our exclusive picture shows Adam was joined by his wife Zhiyuan in the intensive care ward, and managed to sit up and walk a few steps. Adam’s parents – Carl and Karen Henshall-Jones, have flown out from Sale to China, to be with him at the hospital in Anhui.
”Adam has been walking and is doing so much better. We’re all very pleased. Its early days but we are hoping for him to get stronger for his next operation when the doctors decide he’s ready,” said his sister-in-law Kate Henshall-Jones.
Adam, who has been teaching English to Chinese students for the last eighteen months, was taken ill on a shopping trip with is wife, and rushed to hospital, where doctors had to do emergency surgery to relieve blood clots on the brain.
The family is facing huge medical bills because Adam did not have any medical insurance, and China does not have a national health service.” We have launched a crowdfunding page to try to help with the medical bills. We think the medical fees will be about £30,000 or more. It is quite devastating.” said Kate.
Kate said:”We’ve launched a JustGiving page and we’ve had a brilliant response from people who know Adam in Sale and complete strangers.
‘So far we have raised about £17,000. I would like to say a special thank you to each and everyone who has contributed. Words can express how grateful we are,” said Kate. “We want to try and raise any money we can to help Adam and his parents to fund any of his care. It’s a living nightmare for us all. We would appreciate any help.”
Adam went to Tyntesfield Primary School in Alma Road in Sale and the Ashton on Mersey School. He has been married four years.
