EXCLUSIVE – take a look at the new boats as they arrive in Liverpool
“Its a dream come true – when I started out with this crazy idea to bring water taxis to Sale and Manchester it was remote and far fetched. Now the boats are here, and I can see the whole thing taking shape in front of me,” said Steve Cadwell, of Manchester Water Taxis.
”It’s very exciting time for us, and we hope to expand the service, and set up services to Media City eventually using the Manchester Ship Canal,” said Steve.
The bright yellow boats are in Liverpool to be fitted out before making their way to the Bridgewater Canal. ”We’ve chosen November 7th as the start date for our service.
”We estimate the journey time will be approximately 45 minutes at peak times, and we will be running from Sale Waterside, and the Bridge Inn, to Manchester Hotel Football, Dukes 92, Castlefield.
“We also hope to run a service to the Trafford Centre in the daytime and at weekends. Interest has been greater than we expected and we are selling tickets now online, so everything is set for the launch,” said Steve.
The Bridgewater Canal has been used as a popular means of getting to Manchester before as this photograph shows. It dates back to 1900, although we doubt this particular boat would pass today’s health and safety regulations. We are indebted to Trafford Archives for the use of this photograph.
