Sale Today can exclusively reveal that the mystery VIP turning the Sale Moor village Christmas lights will be BBC North West weather presenter Dianne Oxberry.
The big switch on is scheduled for Sunday November 20th on the Warrener Street car park. The party starts at 5.30pm and everyone’s invited. The organisers say that Dianne will switch on the lights around 6-15pm.
”We are delighted to say that Dianne is our celebrity VIP and agreed to take a break from her busy schedule to switch the Sale Moor lights on. I know how impressed she has been in the way the community has rallied around to ensure there are lights this Christmas.”
Sale Moor village missed out on the lights last year after funding was withdrawn. But the lights will be back on again after a wonderful community response to a Crowdfunding Appeal organised by the We Are Sale Moor action group.
“We raised the full amount to get the lights in the trees thanks to some additional help from traders and collection boxes in shops. We collected a great amount in those. Shoppers have been really generous. So we will now get all the lights we wanted including up lighters in the trees by the car wash,’ said Christine Houlding for We Are Sale Moor.
She added:”We will have the Salvation Army band performing throughout the night with carol singing. And there will be food available. We hope people will stick around for the full event as so much work has gone into it. It should be a great night – it will end about 9pm.
”It was hard to find the Christmas spirit last year. We vowed to bring it back, and we are absolutely delighted to say we now have the means to do it,” said Christine ‘
