Raider threatened to set alight staff in betting shop robbery in Sale

A terrified member of a betting shop staff was sprayed with a liquid, believed to be  petrol, by a man who threatened to set them alight during a robbery in Sale.

The raider was wearing a Vendetta Halloween mask throughout horrific ordeal.

The raid occurred at 8.30pm last night at the premises of Betfred bookmakers on Coppice Avenue.  A spokesman for GMP said:” At around 8.30pm a lone male offender entered the premises and walked to the back of the store. The male waited for the staff member to open the door to the security counter. Unaware of the offenders presence, the victim unlocked the door and the offender forced their way through and sprayed the staff member with an unknown liquid over the victims face an shirt.

”The male demanded cash from behind the counter and produced a cigarette lighter and threatened to alight the victim, telling him the liquid is petrol. The victim handed over the cash in fear for their life and the offender made off with a substantial amount of money.

“The male is described as White, at the time of the offence he was wearing a grey onesie with a Vendetta Halloween type mask. An investigation is underway and enquiries are on-going. If you have any information, please report to 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
