Hundreds of people gathered today for the Annual Service of Remembrance at the Sale, and Ashton on Mersey, War Memorial.
It followed the traditional parade from Sale Masonic Hall for the wreath laying ceremony.
Despite dull, threatening skies there was an impressive turn out from Sale residents. They heard a poignant rendition of The Last Post, followed by a hushed one minute silence, then the Reveille sounded, as young and old, veterans and serving members of the armed forces, and members of the local community paid their respects.
The local Annual Poppy Appeal hopes to exceed the £34,000 raised last year in the Sale area.
