There are other options to consider for the future of the Warrener Street Car Park site including building a leisure centre on the site, constructing a GP surgery, and a community-owned convenience store, or developing it as a supermarket, as planned.
Residents were invited to a public consultation on the way forward. ‘When we lost the vote over planning permission for a supermarket at the site, we all thought that this was the end, but this has not proved to be the case. I think Trafford Council has listened to the people of Sale Moor. Most people are not in favour of the supermarket, and the Council is now saying there are other options to consider,’ said Christine Houlding of We Are Sale Moor Group.
The Council retains ownership of the land, and has instructed consultants Cushman and Wakefield, to explore an independent options and feasibility study to determine the site’s future potential.
This included a public meeting last week when five options were presented for people to consider.
- Do nothing and leave it as a Council-run car park.
- Develop it as a 18,000 sqft supermarket in accordance with plans submitted by Kirkland Developments and granted by Trafford Council’s planning committee.
- A new plan being submitted by Kirkland for a smaller supermarket on the site.
- A proposal by We Are Sale Moor Group for mixed use – an independent community owned store, with housing, and a GP surgery, with a 50 space car park owned by the Council, to be built on the development.
- A new 13,500 sqft leisure facility with a cafe
Cushman and Wakefield, will be compiling a report to the Council from questionnaires circulated and people’s views on the way forward. Further details may be obtained by contacting Heather Standidge of Cushman and Wakefield by email to heather.standidge@cushwake.com”
