The traditional  blessing of the Crib outside Sale Town Hall today brought the message of Christmas home to many people using the Town Centre.  With children from St. Joseph’s RC Primary School Choir singing carols it really did start to feel like Christmas.

For those of you with long memories there always was a Crib outside the Town Hall.  It’s had a place there since the 1920s and for 30 years it was a regular sight at Christmas.  However in the post war years there was a great debate about who should pay for a new one with the then Sale Borough Council agreeing to make funds available.

“For a number of years there was no Crib outside the Town Hall until five years ago when we agreed to provide and maintain the Crib,” said Michael Riley of Churches Together in Sale. “Last year the wooden Crib and frame was renewed, and this year we have sourced solar charged lights to illuminate the Crib in the evenings.”
