Trafford Trading Standards say they have received reports about a gang of men pressure selling cleaning products door to door.
According to a post on the GMP Trafford South Facebook site, the men are selling over-priced cleaning products and have been pressuring residents into paying what they say are huge sums for products they don’t need.
Some of the comments on the page suggest the men can be rude, while others said they bought something just so they would go away.
One man wrote:”Called at my house, rang the bell. When I went to answer they’d already gone, then as I was shutting the door one of them shouted and tried to sell me four microfibre cloths for a fiver, a sink unblocker and a duster on a stick.
“Had a card with him that he said he’d just got out of prison and was working on a scheme with the council and the probation service. Told him it’s all too dear for stuff I don’t need. To be honest he didn’t come across as rude just a bit lacking in how to converse.”
A plea from the police on the Facebook page says:”Please be aware that the men may carry ID claiming that they are associated with Trafford Council, or may tell you that they are working with the Probation Service. This is not true.
“Please keep an eye on elderly or vulnerable friends, relatives and neighbours and report suspicious callers to GMP on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.”
