The public will learn of the preferred development option for the Sale Moor Warrener Street Car Park site on January 31st.

A press release was issued this afternoon inviting the public to see the plans  –  but a vital piece of information was missing  – what is the preferred option?

A spokesperson  for Trafford Council  said:”We haven’t got that information to hand at the moment. Rest assured when we do have the information for release – it will be released.  We hope as many people can come down to the “drop-in” session on Tuesday January 31st. We appreciate their views.”

The press release said: “Local residents and businesses of Sale Moor are invited to view the summary findings and preferred development option for the Warrener Street Car Park site at a public drop-in event at Lime Tree Primary Academy on Tuesday 31st January between 4.45pm and 6.45 pm.

“The Warrener Street site and its adjoining plots together form an important gateway to Sale Moor Village, creating an opportunity to enhance perceptions and attract more people to stop, dwell and spend locally.

“As a publicly owned asset the Council must ensure that development of the car park site achieves best value in both financial and socio-economic terms. Towards this aim, Cushman & Wakefield has now completed an independent Options and Feasibility Study on behalf of Trafford Council to inform and determine the site’s future potential. “

Executive Member for Economic Growth, Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr John Reilly said: “Both the Council and Cushman & Wakefield, are keen to encourage local residents and businesses to come along to the drop-in event to view the recommendations and preferred development option for this important site. We would not have got to the stage we are without their involvement so far and the importance of their continued involvement cannot be over-estimated.

But Christine Houlding from the We Are Sale Moor Action Group said this afternoon:”Like many others in the village we are very keen to hear outcome and will do our best to ensure the community is kept informed.”

Th Group are keen on Option 4 – that provides mixed use – for a GP surgery, a community convenience store, and some housing, with a smaller car park.

Last year planning approval was given by Trafford Council for the erection of a supermarket on the site – but it couldn’t go ahead because the Council still owns the land.

Two previous public consultations in September and November 2016 have helped to inform the Study, with local people revealing their key aspirations and concerns for the future of the site and wider village, and providing feedback on a range of potential development options. The feedback received at the consultation sessions have been an integral part of the Study and have helped to shape the final recommendations for the future of the Warrener Street Car Park site.
