A woman in her 40s was viciously assaulted as she walked alongside Trafford General Hospital just before 6pm last night.

She was hit on the back of her head causing her to fall to the ground.  Her attacker then pinned her down with a knife to her throat before sexually assaulting her.  Police say he was disturbed by something and fled the scene.

He is described as white, in his late 20s, about six foot two inches tall, with light ginger or blond eyebrows and had a Manchester accent.

It’s thought that he was wearing a grey hooded top pulled tight around his face to his eyebrows and bottom lip and grey jogging bottoms that were a different shade to the top.

The woman was attacked at 5.45 pm as she walked down a path which runs at the side of the hospital between Moorside Road and Davyhulme Road

Detective Inspector John Stainton, from GMPs Trafford borough, said: “This was a terrifying attack on an innocent woman who was going about her day as usual.

“Everyone has the right to go about their daily lives  without fear of being attacked or sexually assaulted.

“Specially trained officers are currently supporting her and I would like to praise her for her courage in reporting this to us.

“I understand this will cause concern in the community and we have increased patrols in the area, ” he said.

DI Stainton has asked anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the attack, to get in touch with the police.  Likewise if anyone recognises the description of the man, he asks they too get in touch.

*We know that this terrible attack did not happen in Sale, but we feel that the given the time it happened, where and type of assault, we should report it because of the number of people from Sale who will have apointments at the hospital.
