Quick thinking 15 year old thwarts abduction attempt in Sale

Ashton on Mersey School in row over special needs plan

A 15 year old schoolboy escaped from a man who tried abduct him in Marsland Road in Sale as he walked home from school.

Ashton on Mersey school issued an urgent  warning to parents by email  about the incident, and safety advice for pupils.

This is the second incident involving a pupil at the Ashton on Mersey school.  In November  a woman tried to abduct an 11-year-old.

The latest abduction attempt happened on Wednesday evening when the schoolboy was walking home from school. He was approached by a man in a small blue car.

The man, aged in his 30s, is said to have told the schoolboy he was delivering a parcel to his mother.

He then asked the boy if he would also like a lift. The teenager refused the lift and the man  drove off along Marsland Road.

The man is described as white, of slim build and has grey or brown hair with a short beard.

His hairstyle is shaved at the sides and long on top.

His parents reported the incident to police. Police said the boy was not hurt but they are very concerned.

The school said in an email to parents: “We are again reminding pupils of the importance of taking care when travelling to and from school and wherever possible walking in pairs or small groups on well used routes.  Please can you again reinforce this message at home and ensure all our pupils remain vigilant.”

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone with further information to come forward.

Parents of children at Ashton-on-Mersey School were sent a similar warning in November last year after a woman attempted to abduct an 11-year-old boy.
