Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards is heading to Sale as part of the Festival in June.

But Eddie is leaving his skis at home, and concentrating on his incredible life story instead.

He is taking a leap into the unknown by giving a one-man show –  Try Hard – at the Robert Bolt Theatre on June 9th.

A spokesman for Eddie says:”In Try Hard, Eddie talks through his incredible life-journey; from self-learning ski-jumping and being shunned by the sporting establishment, to the extensive surgery to rebuild his face and body following years of spectacular crashes on the snow as he set out to break world-records in stunt jumping  including leaps over 10 cars and six buses., and speed skating to break the 100 mph barrier.

“He will be talking about his  bankruptcy, to gaining a Law degree, and even how he became a most unlikely pop-star in Finland, above all, what will shine through is the steely resilience of a fearless man determined to overcome huge sporting and life hurdles.”

Eddie’s incredible life story was made into a film

”Eddie is a unique British sporting hero with an incredible story to tell. The world’s ninth-fastest amateur downhill speed skier went on to become Great Britain’s first Olympic – self-taught – Ski-Jumper, who missed out on medals by some distance, but won the hearts of the nation with his plucky, positive attitude and down-to-earth persona and emerged as a star of the Calgary ’88 Winter Olympics, returning to Britain as an overnight sporting celebrity and hero.”

Eddie’s story of the Calgary Winter Olympics ,where he finished 73rd out of 73 competitors – was made into a feature film by 20th Century Fox- starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman.

Tickets for the event at the Robert Bolt Theatre at the Sale Waterside Arts Centre are available now. Price £16
