One of the oldest DIY stores in Sale is to close at the end of the month.

Jacks DIY and hardware store has been a familiar landmark along Hope Road, with its distinctive yellow and black sign for fifty years.

Now the closing down signs have been put up outside the store and their Facebook page says “Store closing on March 31st.”

One shopper said:”We will truly miss Jacks. You could find anything for DIY, and the staff were always trying to help with suggestions and offering a first class service.”

A member of staff said:”Sadly we are closing – all good things must come to an end eventually…”

WALTON PARK WIMPY MEMORIAL: A new war memorial has been unveiled in Walton Park, to commemorate the aircrew who crash-landed there on the third of August 1943, killing two Australian airmen.

The memorial reads:

In honour of the allied airmen whose aircraft crashed on this site 3rd August 1943
