Detectives search Sale home following armed ram-raid at jewellery shop in City Centre

Detectives investigating a ram-raid on a city centre jewellers executed a number of warrants today, including one in Sale.

Police have not said where in Sale the search happened but it was  among three premises targeted, with the other two in Salford.

The ram-raid incident happened at 10pm on  Easter Bank Holiday Monday when police were called to St Anne’s Street following reports of an armed robbery.

A group of men in a stolen Alfa Romeo car had rammed through the front of the shop to get inside.

Two of them used hammers to smash into display cases while two men waited outside on motorbikes.

Watches worth tens of thousands of pounds were taken by the men.

At 8 am this morning officers from the City of Manchester Team and Salford Borough executed the warrants.  A 27-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Boyce of the City of Manchester Team said:”This was a brazen robbery that happened in the city centre on a busy bank holiday Monday.

“These men caused caused significant damage to the shop as well as stealing high value jewellery from inside and based on information  we’ve gathered from our enquiries, we have been able to take action this morning and progress our investigation.”
