Go Wild at Sale Water Park on a family fun filled day

Adults and children alike are encouraged to get out, and get active in the great outdoors with the leading environmental charity aiming to reconnect people to the trees, woods and wildlife on their doorstep.

Activities at the annual event include woodland crafts to wild foraging as well as storytelling sessions and even a solar powered DJ – with all events free for families.

Go Wild at Sale Water Park takes place on Saturday 17 June 12 – 3pm in the field opposite Jackson’s Boat Pub, Rifle Road, M33 2LX.

This event forms part of the Trafford Countryside Management Partnership (TCMP) which was set up in September 2013 and is led by City of Trees and Trafford Council. It aims to involve a wider range of organisations, businesses and communities in managing, supporting and using Trafford’s countryside.

Rhys Wynne from the City of Trees team comments; “The range of free activities on offer are aimed at teaching children about the trees, woods and wildlife on their doorstep, and re-establish that important connection with the natural world”. He adds; “Last year saw hundreds of families come together and enjoy being outside in one of Trafford’s most-popular urban oasis’. This event is set to be even bigger and better so we encourage people to get involved.”

There will be a host of activities for families to take part in with face painting, circus skills and a bouncy castle alongside nature-themed hands-on sessions such as guided wildlife walks and willow weaving.

The event forms part of City of Trees’ Heritage Trees project which celebrates and records our local tree heritage – the trees, woodlands, hedgerows and orchards which are part of the fabric of our towns and cities. A unique interactive online database has been created showcasing people’s stories, memories and photographs – as well as maps showing where to find trees of interest near them at www.heritagetrees.org.uk.

Rhys Wynne explains; “At the event we’ll be collecting people’s stories of the trees and woods in their area – whether that’s the tallest tree where you live; one you planted in your garden or the cherry tree you love to see in blossom”. He adds; “Tell us about your tree tales at the event or submit them online at www.heritagetrees.org.uk to help us celebrate Greater Manchester’s trees and woods”.

Sale Water Park is accessible by public transport and has its own Metrolink stop which runs from Manchester Piccadilly to the airport.
