Children from Forest Park Preparatory School in Sale were excited to receive a surprise visit from three athletics legends during their Sports Day last week.
Colin Jackson, Sally Gunnell and Jonathan Edwards visited Sale Harriers, the venue for the School’s sports day, last Thursday 15th June to deliver tickets to the IAAF World Championships London 2017 to Forest Park pupil James Leyland and his father Steve.
The visit marked 50 days to go to the Championships, which begin on 4th August.
The three former British world champions have been a huge part of the build-up to the Summer of World Athletics with each of their world record times and distances inspiring special ‘Legend Ticket’ prices to the championships; Gunnell’s 400m hurdles record of 52.74, Jackson’s 110m hurdles record of 12.91 and Edwards’ triple jump record of 18.29m.
During his visit to the Olympic Park in August, 11-year-old James will get to see the men’s 200m final and the men’s triple jump final.
Forest Park’s Headteacher Nick Tucker said: “We were delighted to welcome the athletes to our Sports Day, and the children really enjoyed meeting them.
“We hope events such as the IAAF World Championships will help inspire our pupils to become the athletics stars of the future!”
