Sale FC Rugby Club have announced a major coaching initiative for the community – aimed at restoring the club as a centre of excellence and getting more people  involved in the club..

”This is an exciting time for Sale FC and the result of three years planning and organisation, and now we are ready to go,”said Mike Jefferson, CEO of Sale FC.

“We are very pleased to announce the Sale FC Foundation has secured enough funding through sponsorship for a year long scheme, that will see our marquee signing Andrew Hughes, going into Sale Grammar School every week to organise coaching for all age groups, boys and girls, and developing links with them at Sale FC. Andrew will oversee all the rugby fixtures on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s, and his brief is to encourage all ages to take part in rugby. We also want to develop our girls playing rugby, because there is so much interest now, and raise the profile of rugby in the Sale area for the whole community.

“This a year-long initiative. We obviously want to spot the stars of the future and give them the opportunity to be part of this club, but it’s not about talent spotting – rugby is a team game, and is for everyone.  We want to bring the good times back to Sale and make the whole community proud of their club and team.”

Mike is very enthusiastic about developing the Heywood Ground into a centre of excellence,”We are building for the future with the Sale FC Rugby Foundation, and attracting local sponsors, who appreciate what we are doing for the whole community.”

Andrew Hughes says:”My aim at Sale FC is to increase participation in the sport of rugby, supporting talent and provide an opportunity for young people to enjoy playing sport and to sustain their activity levels. Rugby is a sport that can be enjoyed by a range of ages, and there are plenty of age groups at Sale FC that will welcome new players and show them that rugby is a great family sport to be involved in.

“I want to provide high quality sports coaching and physical activity for young people and to encourage people to participate in rugby at the club. My role will involve making strong links with the schools and Colleges in the area and bringing rugby into the community of Sale and to the club, Sale RUFC. I will be delivering coaching sessions to try and show junior players that rugby is a fun and enjoyable sport to be involved in and that they have a fantastic opportunity with their local rugby club to make new friends, join a prestigious rugby community and also learn new skills.

“Sale FC already has a fantastic reputation as a rugby club both on and off the field and I’m hoping to get more of the local community involved in a great club. I cannot wait to start and give back to Sale RUFC and the Sale community that I have been partly involved with over the past two seasons and have thoroughly enjoyed. I am looking forward to meeting the Mini and Junior section when they start the new season, meeting the Colts coming through the club and getting the club involved in the local community.”
