Police hunt for two men after callous burglary on vulnerable couple

Detectives are appealing for information after a disabled elderly couple were robbed in their Timperley home by two hooded men.

Officers were called to Shaftesbury Avenue at around 3am on Tuesday July 4th after reports of an aggravated burglary.

After forcing their way into the property through a rear window, one of the hooded men – who were dressed all in black – threatened the couple and forced them to stay in their chairs in the living room while the other man ransacked the house.

The first man then took a gold bracelet from the woman’s arm before the pair fled the scene with cash and jewellery including two Longines watches worth £1,000 each.

The first man is described as 6ft, of slender build, with dark eyes, and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a back hooded top and fingerless gloves.

The second man was described as wearing all black.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for the public’s help to trace the men responsible.

Detective Constable Simon Johnson, of GMP’s Trafford division, said: “This was a callous burglary committed against a vulnerable elderly couple in their eighties who have been left extremely shaken.

“These men have forced their way inside their home in the middle of the night and subjected them to a terrifying ordeal in the place where they should feel safe.

“It happened in a residential area while people were in bed but the road is a main thoroughfare to Altrincham and anybody driving through may have noticed these individuals acting suspiciously around that time.

“If you saw or heard anything suspicious I would urge you to contact us. I would ask people to look at the photographs bracelet and a watch in case they are offered these to buy. It could prove to be key in helping us find the men responsible.”
