Digging for victory ….Walton Road Allotments voted the best in Sale

Walton Road Allotments has  won  the 2017 Award for best site in Sale.

And the Environmental award has gone to Moor Nook Allotments this year.

The awards were presented at Urmston Lane Allotments, Stretford by the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Jonathan Coupe, and  Mayoress Mrs Diane Coupe.  They presented certificates and trophies to a number of worthy winners in the Borough.

The judges commented that all the allotments were exceptional but 36 in particular stood out and were judged to be of a very high standard, 55 allotment tenants were also awarded highly commended certificates and 107 tenants received letters commending them on their efforts.

Runner up – Mossfield Allotments, Urmston
Best individual plot in the borough –  Mr A Borthwick, Plot 12, Moss Lane Allotments, Altrincham
Runner up – Mrs L Cole, Plots 16b/18 Trafford Drive Allotments, Timperley

Best flower border in the borough – Mrs D Flood, plot 25b Urmston Lane Allotments, Stretford
Environmental award – Mr A Singleton, Plot 26 & 58b, Moor Nook Allotments, Sale

Best allotment site in Stretford – Urmston Lane Allotments
Best allotment site in Altrincham – Trafford Drive Allotments
Best allotment site in Sale – Walton Road Allotments

Councillor Jonathan Coupe said: “Huge congratulations to everyone who received an award on the day. Trafford has some extremely dedicated and talented gardeners who take great pride in what they do. It’s fantastic that their efforts have been recognised.”

Moor Nook Community Allotments was created in 2011 when the local community collaborated with the Communuty Payback team and Communtiy Gateway representatives. An old garage site was left as overgrown wasteland and has been converted into a stunning community gardens. The site has achieved recognition in the NW in bloom competition attaining the maximum level of 5.
