The friends of Caspar Blackburn are using their grief to fight for an improvements to canal paths including railings and CCTV cameras.

They believe CCTV would have made the search for Caspar quicker and railings may have prevented him failing into the Bridgewater canal.

Using Change.org they have started a petition to serve to Trafford Borough Council.  They needed 200 signatures to do this but within hours they had almost 5,000.

Police last week searching the canal where there are no railings

The message on the page says:”A friend of ours was found in the canal last week at just 22 years old. He was missing for six days before he was found.

“We believe that if CCTV was there we would have found him quicker and if there were railings and street lighting he may never have fallen in.

We would like to raise awareness due to many people being found in the canal as it is a very dangerous place.”

Caspar was last seen by his friends sitting on a bench outside the Slug and Lettuce at 2.15am on Sunday morning.  A few minutes later he had gone.  Despite extensive searches it wasn’t until the following Saturday that his body was found in the canal near Springfield Road.
