After years of not very much happening Sale seems to be awash with plans for the future.
Yesterday Sale Today revealed plans by the owners of The Square, which would see an ambitious overhaul for the area, including a cinema, apartments and maybe even a 15 storey building.
All they need is Trafford Borough Council to agree their scoping document, which looks at the possible environmental impact on the area, and then allow a planning application, which as yet has to been submitted.
But it got people talking. The company Maloneview, want to have a public consultation on their plans but they don’t have a timescale for that as yet.
However Trafford itself is currently wading through the ideas submitted at their own public consultation which was held two weeks ago in an empty shopping unit in the centre. Hundreds turned out to look at suggestions for the council’s plans for improving Sale.
Now there are just a few days left for anyone who missed the open day or still has some thoughts they want to offer.
Those proposals focus on public spaces and the environment, gateways and arrival points, parking and signage, de-cluttering of streets to create what the council say will be a more pleasant environment and” linkages” to Sale’s green spaces and waterways.
The process ends on Monday October 16, so still time to contribute. Go online to complete their online survey. The questionnaire, along with more information on the plans, is available at: http://www.investintrafford.com/TownCentres/Sale-Town-Centre-Consultation.aspx.
Developer Maloneview’s plan includes the partial demolition of The Square shopping centre and the construction of up to 3,400 sq metres of retail space, a 2,000 sq metres cinema, and up to 215 residential units,
The development, which would stretch over a five-acre site in the town centre, could include buildings of up to 15 storeys in height.
It will also include extensive public realm enhancements, landscaping, and new road access along Sibson Road.
The three-storey Sibson House office block, as well as six retail units and a multi-storey car park would all be demolished to make way for the development, but the Acre House car park and the retail units below would be retained.
Mark Rebbeck, Commercial Director for Maloneview (Sale) Limited, said: “We are still at an early stage with the proposals for the redevelopment of Sale town centre. Before a planning application is prepared, we will be consulting widely with local residents and businesses so they can help shape these exciting plans for the town. This is an important step though and we look forward to speaking to the local community about the future of Sale in the months to come.”
