Caspar Blackburn’s funeral arrangments have been announced.

His best friend, Billy Heyes, says that the funeral will be held at 11.30 am on the November 1st at St John the Divine Anglian Church, on Brooklands Road, in Sale.

Billy says:”Dress code is formal but bright colours are allowed – preferably no black,”

Caspar was a big fan of the local car cruising scene and his friends have announced they will be holding a convoy of cars to show their respects at the funeral.

Details of the route the convoy will take are yet to be released. :”Please wait for further details – the postcode of the church is M33 3PB for anyone who just wants go to the church and not take part in the convoy.” said Billy.

Caspar disappeared after a night out in Sale. The 22-year-old was last seen sitting on a bench outside the Slug and Lettuce pub at 2.15 am, next to the Bridgewater Canal.  His body was discovered after an intensive search of the canal and its surroundings a week later near to Springfield Road..

Friends of Caspar have launched a petition to introduce CCTV cameras and railings alongside the canal bank.  It has been signed by nearly 16,000 people.

Police  searching the canal where there are no railings

The message on the page says:”A friend of ours was found in the canal last week at just 22 years old. He was missing for six days before he was found.

“We believe that if CCTV was there we would have found him quicker and if there were railings and street lighting he may never have fallen in.

We would like to raise awareness due to many people being found in the canal as it is a very dangerous place.”

A striking tribute to Caspar tied to railings at Sale Waterside.
