Huge turnout from family and friends as Caspar’s funeral halts traffic throughout Sale….

The family, and friends, and car enthusiasts brought traffic to a standstill as they said their ‘goodbyes’  to Caspar Blackburn today.

His funeral cortege was joined by 200 cars all bearing orange ribbons as it drove through the town.

”We just wanted to give Caspar the best send off.  It’s a tremendous turnout – all his friends are here, driving their cars with orange ribbons to show their respect,” said one friend as the cortege arrived at St John The Divine Church, bringing traffic to a halt on Brooklands Road.

The convoy cars was so large it filled the church car park and mourners in the convoy had to park on Brooklands itself.

The hearse carrying the coffin of the car enthusiast – had a number plate saying “Caspar”  accompanying  his coffin.  Many cars had ribbons and one had a flag dedicated to Caspar.

Hundreds of people wearing gathered outside the church as Caspar’s black coffin was carried inside, immediately followed by family and close friends.

Billy Hayes, Caspar’s best friend, organised the convoy. and he urged people not to wear black for the funeral. “I hope people will wear something bright,” and to dress their cars with orange ribbons.”

Caspar who was 22, disappeared after a night out in the Slug and Lettuce in Sale. He was last seen sitting on the bench near to the Bridgewater Canal at 2.15 am. His body was found a week later in the canal.
