As we revealed last month plans for the biggest overhaul of Sale town centre for decades are being finalised ahead of being submitted to Trafford Borough Council, but not before you have your say.

Maloneview (Sale)will hold two consultation meetings next week about their £65 million scheme which would see the partial demolition of The Square, prior to them submitting a full planning application for approval by Trafford

The Square Shopping Centre – how it looks now

Residents will have the opportunity to view and comment on plans and find out more information at two events to be held on Thursday, November 16, between 4pm and 8pm, and Saturday, November 18, between 11am and 3pm, at the Square Shopping Centre in Sale Town Centre.

Maloneview already own The Square and tried two years ago to  push ahead with a similar scheme. The firm says the revised mixed-use regeneration scheme would deliver up to 205 residential units, ranging from studios to a selection of townhouses, alongside up to 3,400 sq m of retail and leisure floorspace, a 2,000 sq m, a six screen cinema as well as an extensive new public realm; and a new plaza bordering Sibson and Springfield Roads to the south.

The Map published by the would-be developers Maloneview

According to the developers there would be benefits to the scheme including

  • Meeting the demand for housing with up to 205 new residential units, ranging from studio apartments to townhouses
  • Revitalised shopping centre with up to 3,400sqm of new retail and leisure space – creating hundreds of new jobs
  • Six screen cinema to boost the evening economy
  • Improved connections and linkages to the existing town centre
  • Enhancing business growth and increasing footfall in the local area
  • Creation of a new public realm and landscaping
  • Delivering over 250 parking spaces on site for residential and commercial units
  • Financial and infrastructure benefits for the community

So Sale is spoilt for choice for once but what do you think…? Do you fancy a 15-storey building, a cinema and the rest that is on offer – not to say the jobs which would be created throughout any redevelopment? Let us know please.  You can comment here or on our Facebook page.  We look forward to hearing from you.
