Woman in her seventies was the victim of the mystery shed fire in Northern Moor

UPDATE

Police have confirmed that an elderly woman was the victim of a mysterious fire which destroyed a shed yesterday afternoon in the back garden of her ground floor flat.

Neighbours have been left devastated after the fire in Mossdale Road.

Police and the Fire service have begun a joint investigation to try to establish the cause of the fire and are treating the death of the woman, who was in her seventies, as “unexplained”.

The blaze broke out at the ground floor flat at around 12.30pm yesterday.

WALTON PARK WIMPY MEMORIAL: A new war memorial has been unveiled in Walton Park, to commemorate the aircrew who crash-landed there on the third of August 1943, killing two Australian airmen.

The memorial reads:
