Bomb squad officers were called in to deal with a  “suspect”  device thought to be a grenade which was found on the canal bank at Brooklands this morning. The Metrolink Station is now closed and a 30 metre cordon in place – disrupting through traffic at this busy interchange.

The cordon extends from the Metrolink on Marsland Road,  Hope Road and Brooklands Road.
Metrolink Service has also been disrupted with no services currently stopping at Brooklands, however, the Metrolink is passing through the station.

Police officers are currently at the scene assessing the device.

A spokesman for GMP said: “We were called at 7.20am this morning to a suspect historic grenade.

” There are a number of road closures and precautions in place while an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team assessment is made.”
