Man arrested in hunt for the driver who killed Sale woman in hit and run

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision which killed a Sale woman at a pedestrian crossing.

Emma Galton, 24, from Sale, was walking across Chester Road near Manchester city centre when she was struck by a silver Mondeo.

The man was arrested on Sunday but police were then granted a warrant to extend his custody for detectives to continue interviewing him. A 28-year-old woman who had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has since been bailed.

The fatal collision happened at 9.25pm on Thursday, June 28.

Sergeant Danny Byrne, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said on Tuesday afternoon: “We have been carrying out numerous enquiries since this tragic incident happened on Thursday and we currently have a man in custody being questioned.

“Our investigation is on-going and I want to continue to appeal to anybody who thinks they may have any information that can assist us, no matter how big or small, to please contact police.”

The Mondeo involved in the incident was found in the North Reddish area of Stockport.
