The highways improvements will begin in Bowdon, with resurfacing works closing parts of South Downs Road next week.
Lostock Circle at junction 9 of the M60 in Urmston will also benefit from major resurfacing works this summer.
Executive councillor for environment, air quality and climate change, Cllr Stephen Adshead said: “We’ve listened to residents and motorists about their concerns and this year we’re investing even more than in 2017/18.
“Some of the treatment methods that will be used in this year’s capital will reuse and recycle the materials that have been planed off the older surface by mixing it with new materials.
“This allows us to reduce wastage as well as maintain a good quality surface finish.”
The borough has also received £250,000 from Transport for Greater Manchester, specifically for the treatment of potholes.
Trafford’s roads suffered from a harsh winter, with snow and freezing rain damaging road surfaces.
Some roads have sustained frost heave, where the expansion of freezing ground water has caused pot holes and the road surface to deteriorate.
The new investment programme will use a number of preventative methods including full resurfacing, thermal road repair and a two-phase micro-asphalt overlay.
There is approximately 834km of road network in the borough.
