Apopular Sale pub has been forced to call time on under 21’s following fights and violent scuffles,

Trafford Council has imposed strict age restrictions on the King’s Ransom pub on Britannia Road after a number of large-scale disturbances outside the premises.

The Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee ruled that the canal-side pub can now only admit those who are 21 and above after 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Council and Greater Manchester Police took action after several violent scuffles outside the pub. In the latest incident on 15^th December, up to 120 people were involved in sustained scenes of disorder, including several brawls.

The Sub- Committee, following a six-and-a-half hour meeting on Monday, attached 29 other conditions on the pub’s licence including a ruling it must close at 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Cllr Mike Freeman, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Constitutional Reform and Resident Engagement, said:

The Council was absolutely correct to take Greater Manchester Police’s advice and do something about this situation. Our number one priority is public safety and we will not sit back and do nothing when this kind of violence is erupting on the street outside the pub. I am delighted with the decision of the Licensing Sub-Committee and we will continue to monitor this situation very closely.

Trafford Council conducted a fast track review of the pub’s licence in December after an application under the Licencing Act from Greater Manchester Police suggesting it was associated with serious crime and disorder.

A number of interim measures, some of which have now been made permanent, were attached to the licence including the fact the pub must maintain a more comprehensive CCTV system and have a minimum of eight licenced door supervisors on Fridays and Saturdays, at least two of whom shall be on duty at the top of the steps to the premises and must wear high visibility jackets or vests.

The Sub-Committee also attached conditions requiring managed dispersal of customers.

The pub has 21 days to appeal the Sub-Committee’s decision.
