Armed police arrest a man on suspicion of possessing a gun in Sale

[dropcap type “circles]Armed police arrested a man on suspicion of possessing a firearm in front of the Eastway parade shops in Sale today.

Police were called in to investigate reports of a disturbance shortly before ten this morning.  According to witnesses, three men were seen running from nearby Washway Road towards Eastway before police were called.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a man tackled by police in front of the Eastway shops. off Washway Road. Some reports said the man was bleeding from a head wound.

A 25-year old man was arrested at the scene and taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

Langdale Road was cordoned off and forensic and members of the Tactical Aid Unit searched a garden and nearby roadside drain.

A GMP spokesman said:”

We are currently dealing with a police incident at Eastway in Sale.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and it is not believed that there is an ongoing threat to general members of the public.

“Police will remain at the location for a number of hours.

“There is no disruption to public transport or to traffic travelling along the A56, however there will be disruption to people using Eastway for a number of hours.”
