Detectives confirm a handgun was fired in Sale incident at Eastway

[dropcap type “circles”]Detectives have confirmed a handgun was fired at a BMW car in an incident at the  Eastway shopping parade in Sale on Tuesday morning.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Eastway shortly before 9.50am.

Witnesses reported seeing a man aiming and firing a handgun at a black M Sport BMW, before the car was driven away.

Firearms officers were immediately deployed to the scene and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody for questioning.

At the scene, officers found evidence of a firearms discharge and recovered a handgun.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parker from GMP’s Trafford borough said: “Thankfully no one was hurt, but the consequences could easily have been much worse.

“Thanks to the quick-thinking and swift actions of our officers, we arrested a man at the scene and a dangerous weapon has been recovered and taken off our streets.

“Our investigation is very much ongoing and detectives would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.”
