Overnight snow has caused chaos in Tafford with many schools forced to close and many commuters struggling to make their journey into work and Metrolink services disrupted on the Altrincham line.
The runways at Manchester and Liverpool airports have been closed due to heavy snow and flights have been cancelled.
Manchester Airport said on Twitter that it would be closed this morning and staff worked to clear the runways and advised passengers to check the status of their flights before setting off.
Liverpool Airport said the runway was “temporarily closed” due to snow. It was not clear when it would reopen.
Sale High School was one of many schools to announce they are closed. Many people woke up to find their drives and local roads blocked. Altrincham Girls Grammar school announced it was closing. Other schools in the Trafford region confirmed as closed:-
- St Hughes Primary school
- St. Teresa’s RC Primary School
- Lostock College
- Altrincham College of Arts
- Elmridge Primary school
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning and says that more snow is forecast in the Sale area for the next two days.
GMP issued an urgent travel warning and said people should only make car journeys if they are necessary.
Metrolink services to and from Altrincham to Manchester were brought to a halt because of a points failure at Timperley. Tickets are valid on the 245 and 263 bus services.
