The One Trafford Partnership is changing the way bins are collected in Trafford. From Monday 14 October, the day and order in which household bins are collected will change for most residents.

It means:

  • Most people will have a change of bin day
  • Most people will see the order in which their bins are collected. E.g. having their black bin collected next when it was their blue bin on the old service
  • The frequency of bin collection will not change – green bins will continue to be collected every week, grey bins collected every two weeks, and black and blue bins collected every 4 weeks

Residents will be receiving information packs in the post from mid-September with all the information. The pack will contain a new bin collection calendar and a letter explaining the new service.

To cover any gaps in collections, as households move to the new service, some residents will be getting an extra collection. These extra collections are for households who need to wait a few days longer than normal to get their bins emptied. Details of extra collections will be highlighted in the letter delivered to all affected households.

The One Trafford Partnership, a collaboration between Trafford Council and Amey, are changing the service because housing growth means that collection rounds are no longer as efficient as they could be. The new routes will hopefully reduce unnecessary travel by hundreds of miles per week, reduce CO2 emissions, and will save time and cost to public services.

Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality and Climate Change, Councillor Stephen Adshead, said: “Changing the current collection routes means that most residents will have a new collection day. It is important you check your information pack to see if your bin day has changed and if you have an extra collection. Please start using your new calendar from Monday 14 October.”

“If you have not received your information pack in the post by Wednesday 25 September, please get in touch by ringing 03330 035865 or download your letter and calendar from the council website.”

“To help everyone through the change, the One Trafford recycling team will be on hand to answer your questions about your new collection service. They will be available for a chat in Trafford libraries in the coming weeks – you can find your nearest event online and in the leaflet delivered through your door.
  • The new collection calendar starts from Monday 14 October
  • If residents have not received their information pack by Wednesday 25 September, please ring 03330 035865 to order a pack. Packs can be viewed or downloaded atwww.trafford.gov.uk/bettercollections – just enter your postcode.
  • Meet the Team events will be held in some Trafford libraries – to find your nearest event visit www.trafford.gov.uk/bettercollections. The team will be able to answer your queries and talk you through your changes.
  • Extra collections will be in place for black bins on Saturday 5th October.
  • Extra collections will be in place for blue bins on Saturday 12th October
  • Extra collections will be in place for grey bins from 8 – 10th October and 14 – 18 October.”
