Man arrested after reports four people stabbed at the Arndale Shopping Centre in Manchester

LATEST POLICE UPDATE  -Aman has been arrested after four people were stabbed at Manchester’s Arndale Shopping Centre. Armed police and counter terrorism officers are in attendance.

An updated police statement says:-

“Latest update from Greater Manchester Police on Arndale Stabbing.
Four people injured – not five as previously reported.
Two women taken to hospital with stab wounds. Their conditions are described as stable.
Man in his 50s taken to hospital with stab wounds.
A fourth person was assessed by paramedics, but not taken to hospital.

Police apparently tasered the man outside the Centre which was evacuated.

A police spokesman said four people were stabbed.  North West Ambulance in attendance. The Arndale has been evacuated and police are warning people to avoid the area.

Police confirm counter-terror officers are leading this investigation. Here’s the statement from GMP:

Specialist officers are continuing to respond to an incident at the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester city centre.

In these early stages we are keeping an open mind about the motivation of this terrible incident and the circumstances as we know them.

Given the location of the incident and its nature officers from Counter Terrorism Police North West are leading the investigation as we determine the circumstances.

A man in his 40s – who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of serious assault – remains in custody for questioning.
