A n engaged Sale couple who met at university have made an inspiring song which aims to keep spirits up during lockdown.

Courtney McWilliam and David Bell spent four days recording a cover version of Randy Newman’s ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me,’ the theme from Toy Story.

The song, released just before last night’s Clap for Carers, features video clips sent in by friends and family.

Courtney, a veterinary care assistant, and David, a police officer, are on vocals and David also produced the video. The couple met at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The virtual project was a collaborative effort with Andy McCoy, from Timperley, who plays guitar and drums and produced the track. He also sang with Charlie Dodson, of Altrincham, who likewise was heavily involved in production. Fellow former students Guillem Colomer and Adam Taylor also feature.

Courtney said: “Expressing myself through music has been a great way to cope with difficult times throughout my life and I hope this video can do just that for many people at home right now.

“It’s been truly overwhelming to receive the amount of videos we have from our friends and family all over the world. It just shows how we are all together, even in these times when we may feel alone.”

David said: “A lot of people can relate to the song which is why we wanted to use it to bring people together. We didn’t think we’d get as many videos as we did.

“These are dark and tough times so we wanted to bring a smile to faces and remind people they’re not alone. We’re really happy with the end result.”
