Boost for Sale residents as Chester Road recycling centre is set to reopen

A recycling centre popular with Sale residents is reopening on Monday, May 18.

News that the rubbish tip on Chester Road, Stretford, which has been closed throughout the lockdown, is opening its gates again will be greeted with relief.

Sale residents have used the recycling centre on Woodhouse Lane, Altrincham, for the last fortnight after it reopened for the disposal of bagged general waste only.

Restrictions there will be relaxed from tomorrow with garden waste, cardboard and wood also accepted.

Those rules will also apply at the Stretford site when it opens on Monday. Residents can also take small items of bulky waste that cannot fit into their household waste bin.

However, electrical items, white goods, mattresses or rubble will not be accepted. Containers for these items will be introduced over the coming weeks.

Drivers should be aware of restrictions at both Trafford tips. For instance, an odd and even number car registration plate system is in place allowing visits only on certain days.

Cars and small vans are only allowed so no transit type vans or vehicles with trailers.

Proof of address – such as a utility bill – is required to confirm the waste is from a Trafford property. Mobile phone bills and driving licences are not accepted. Only one person can leave the vehicle and there is no pedestrian access.

Number plates allowed at both Stretford or Altrincham over the next week are:

Even – Fri May 15; Sat May 16; Mon May 18; Wed May 20; Thur May 21; Sat May 23.

Odd – Sun, May 17; Tue May 19; Fri May 22; Sun May 24.
