Sale parks provide escape as leisure activities increase

C hildren’s playgrounds in Sale parks remain closed even though some leisure activities have resumed.

The easing of restrictions means bowling greens are once again open, though the pavilions are still closed. Tennis courts and multi-use game areas can also be used.

The pitch and putt course at Woodheys Park is open and temporarily free of charge. The building remains unmanned and players must take their own golf clubs and balls.

Outdoor gyms, where there is a higher risk of close contact and touching surfaces, remain closed along with playgrounds.

Popular destinations such as Worthington Park, Ashton Park and Walton Park continue to attract large numbers in the first weekend since lockdown restrictions were eased.

Sale and Ashton-on-Mersey Golf Clubs have experienced high demand from players since reopening to members only a few days ago. Strict social distancing measures are in place and clubhouses closed.

Altrincham Golf Course – run by Trafford Leisure and available for public use – reopened yesterday. It was a popular haunt for families, walkers and cyclists when golf was banned during lockdown.

The community can still use the 100-acre site outside playing hours (7 am- 7 pm). Tee times must be booked online in advance.

Trafford Council said on its website: “To help you and your family stay safe, some park facilities remain closed until further notice. Please understand this decision is necessary to help encourage social distancing, protect the vulnerable and minimise the spread of coronavirus.

“We will try to cut the grass but it may not always be possible. Continue to use litter bins and we’re emptying them as normal.”
