Stanley Square appeal to donate school uniforms and school bags to help families in need.

Stanley Square in Sale is hosting a uniform drive to encourage donations to families in need in the town, at a time when the cost of living has never been higher.

“The Great Big Uniform Drop Off” launches tomorrow (10th August), and anyone who is able to donate can drop items off at The Management Centre opposite Specsavers in Sale.

Uniforms can be pre-loved and clean, or brand new, and will be given to those who are unable to acquire their own for the new school year. This new community initiative will allow children to go to school in September in properly fitting clothing, allowing them to feel more comfortable in the classroom, which will lead to better concentration and learning.

In a statement on social media, Stanley Square said:

“From Monday 15th August, all items donated will be put out on display on rails here at Stanley Square for people to take and make use of.

Our aim is to reduce good quality clothes going to landfills whilst providing school uniforms, free of charge, to families in need.

All school clothes and bags will be accepted but they must be new or newly new and anything pre-loved is clean and pressed.”

School uniforms can be a huge expense for families, especially at a time when the rising cost of living is impacting all of us, and this simple act can make a huge difference to so many.

Tony Martin, general manager at Stanley Square said: “I know that there will be parents out there whose children may have quickly outgrown items such as blazers that would then probably be left, forgotten about and maybe even end up in landfill, old school ties, school bags of school leavers, all of which could be in good condition and reused.

“As a school governor at Springfield Primary School in Sale, I sit on the sustainability committee, and we are always looking at ideas with a sustainable ethos. The Great Big Uniform Drop Off will provide people with the opportunity to drop off unwanted school uniform in good, reusable condition that can then be put out on display for members of our community to take.”

If you are having a summer clear-out of good condition uniform that your children have grown out of, please do donate it to ‘The Great Big Uniform Drop Off’ initiative.
