New feel-good radio station Happy Radio UK launches with studios in Sale

A new radio station, Happy Radio UK, serving South Manchester and Cheshire has hit the airwaves with a host of well-known Manchester presenters behind the mic, including Steve Penk, Darren Proctor and Chelsea Norris.

The team behind the station aims to focus on providing great local radio to the region with local content, playing the music that makes you feel good. 

Happy Radio UK has been created by radio DJ Darren Proctor and festival organiser Max Eden with the aim of bringing back local radio to the area and being active within the community with plenty of outside broadcasts, events and engaging content planned.

Darren and Max have invested in new radio studios on Dane Road Industrial Estate in Sale and hope to “create a radio station which plays a big part of local life in the area and makes it accessible and, more importantly, affordable for local businesses to get the right exposure and presence across the region”.

The pair came up with the idea to launch the station in lockdown, as they felt there was a real gap in the market for a local radio station that can be both active in the community and provide local content and cover the news and events. The station will champion all things local, alongside playing the biggest and best feel-good songs across all the decades from the 70s to now.

Radio partner and co-owner Darren Proctor said, “Looking back over the last 25 years of my career, some of the most fun and rewarding times were when the radio stations focussed on being hyperlocal, connecting with our audience to not only make the listener feel that they were part of the radio family but also creating huge interest from local businesses wanting to be part of it. After everything the world has gone through over the past two years; we need a local radio station that is going to lift our spirits and play great music with well-known presenters!”.

The duo is focused on providing a local radio station that both covers the local news and events in the area but also has a big sound and a stellar line-up that listeners will immediately know and recognise. 

Presenters on the station include Steve Penk, Chelsea Norris and Spence MacDonald. 

Happy Radio UK is available online, on your Alexa smart speaker and on the Happy Radio UK app. It will air on DAB later in the year.
