Sale experienced an earthquake last night (29th May) – although most residents might not have felt it.
The earthquake, which took place just before 9pm, registered a relatively gentle magnitude of 2.3 and a depth of 5km, according to The British Geological Survey (BGS). So don’t be surprised if you didn’t feel anything – tremors under a magnitude of 2.5 are not usually felt but can still be recorded by a seismograph.
The BGS reports the epicentre of the earthquake to be on Harboro Road, close to the village of Ashton on Mersey.
