Warrener Street carpark – a chance to see new options based on how residents want to see it developed

The controversial plan to develop a supermarket on the Sale Moor Warrener Street Car Park is on hold for the moment after residents were invited by Trafford Council to consider a new set of options for the site.

Last September there was a public consultation over plans for the site – despite planning permission being granted to Kirkland Developments, for the development of a supermarket on the car park.

But Trafford Council retains ownership of the land and last year the Council leader, Sean Anstee,  refused to sell the land, in an earlier planning application.

The Council appointed  Cushman and Wakefield, as consultants, to undertake an independent Options and Feasibility Study of the Warrener Street site in order to inform and determine its future potential.

There was just one proposal for residents to examine at that September meeting. But after feedback and discussion amongst residents a number of new options have been drawn up and will form the backdrop for a public  meeting on November 22.

A spokesperson for Trafford Borough Council said:”The Warrener Street site and its adjoining plots together form an important gateway to Sale Moor Village, creating an opportunity to enhance perceptions and attract more people to stop, dwell and spend locally.

“As a publicly owned asset the Council must ensure that development of the car park site achieves best value in both financial and socio-economic terms. An initial public consultation event held in September didn’t identify a single preferred option for the site but did reveal the key aspirations and concerns of local people. In response to the feedback received, a number of new alternative development options have been worked up which better meet local objectives but remain deliverable.”

The latest event will take place at Lime Tree Primary Academy on Tuesday 22nd November 2016 between 4.30 and 7.00 pm.
