Four men forced their way into Martin McColls newsagent on Framingham Road, Brooklands at about 8.30 pm last night.
Once through the front door they threatened the staff with violence. During the raid police say a substantial amount of money and cigarettes was taken.
Police are now asking people to contact them if they are offered cheap cigarettes or if they see them being sold locally.
Meanwhile a domestic burglary took place at Hartford Road, Sale yesterday afternoon. Police say the intruder or intruders smashed a glass panel in the conservatory and reached inside to get into the property.
