Sale residents woke up to find a message from the police today – “Beware Your Vehicle is Heaven For Thieving Devils*.
In an attempt to crack down on theft from cars – police on foot patrols placed cards on vehicles overnight, they thought were vulnerable.
The card many woke up to find on their cars
A spokesman for GMP explained:” In the early hours of this morning a couple of our PC’s conducted a foot patrol in the Sale area due to the recent increase in vehicle crime. The officers came across several vehicles displaying valuable items and Sat Nav’s in the windscreens. So if you have received the card on your vehicle, please note that this was a genuine notice left by the Police, just to inform owners in the spirit of crime prevention.
“Please remember to always lock your vehicle and never leave valuable items on display.”
The card said:”You’ve been given this card as vehicles in this area are being targeted by thieves.
“Remove all items of property when you leave you vehicle including Sat Navs.
‘Consider leaving your glove box open to show that it is empty.
“Secure your vehicle with an immobiliser, alarm or tracking device.
“Always keep your vehicle locked even if you only leave it for a few seconds.
‘While you’re not looking, someone else is….”
But the move had its critics , who logged on the to GMP website. Phil Evans wrote:”Am I the only one thinking that putting these cards on cars with valuables in will make them easier to spot for thieves…” and Rach C Wolf wrote:”My thoughts exactly – they are just advertising the fact that the cars have stuff in them in which to steal.”
