The long awaited study into how to improve  Sale Town Centre is to be revealed but Trafford Borough Council still wants to hear from those who live and work in the town.

While neighbouring Altrincham has flourished with inward  and local investment creating a destination for visitors,  Sale’s town centre has remained largely unchanged.

The council announced this week that two companies had been chosen to carry out the study but they are urging local people to attend a special consultation event at the end of month so they can have their say.

A spokeswoman for Trafford Borough Council  said:”The  study will  look at improvements across Sale Town Centre focusing on public spaces and the environment, gateways and arrival points, parking and signage, de-cluttering of streets to create a more pleasant environment and linkages to Sale’s green spaces and waterways.”

Landscape architect specialists Planit IE and transport consultants Civic Engineers are carrying out the study and the Council wants to get local residents and business views on the initial findings.

Both firms have portfolios of projects both at home and abroad where they have changed to look of neglected town centres. They are both involved in the overhaul of Altrincham including Goose Green and the South Trafford Well Being Centre, which is currently under construction.

The  consultation event will be held on September 30 in The Square Shopping Centre, opposite RBS.  It will run from 10am until 3 pm .

A workshop for children and young people run  by TwobyTwo Hurrah will hopefully encourage them to say how they want the future Sale to look.

Councillor David Hopps, Executive Member for Strategic Planning, said: “The Council is committed to the growth and sustainability of our town centres and this study will focus on practical measures to improve Sale for the benefit of all town centre users.

“Planit IE and Civic Engineers have a wealth of experience in preparing similar studies and will bring their expertise to Sale.”

What would you like to see?  We would like to have a debate here at Sale Today. Whether you are a business or a resident we want to come and report your views.

What is lacking, what needs to be knocked down/built up…?  Is Sale in competition with Altrincham or does it have a history of its own which should be developed to bring visitors in?
